Oxford Village website falls victim to hacker

The message ‘Free Irak And Free Palestine? and a Satanic-looking figure are not things you would normally expect to find on a local government’s website.
But on the morning of Wednesday, Aug. 4, they appeared on the Village of Oxford’s website located at www.villageofoxford.org.
According to village Manager Joe Young, it appears the municipality’s website fell victim to a hacker.
Young reported the hacker replaced the village website’s normal appearance and information with the message:
‘Hacked By Scriptx
Moroccans Hackers…..
This Is Not A Dream
This Is A Reality……
Free Irak And Free Palestine….
Greatz: 14c0st3-DHO-adracilla-hackers1.
dogcasa1@hotmail.com?
Below this message was a color picture of a Satanic-looking face with the words ‘Scriptx Was Here? between the image’s horns.
‘This took over the web page,? said Young, noting the village site was back up and running normally later that same day. ‘We will be prosecuting whoever’s responsible.?
Because the village’s website is hosted by Sabre Consulting ? a Pontiac-based company which used to be located in downtown Oxford ? Young said a report will have to be filed with the Pontiac Police Department, which will ‘most likely? have to consult with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Computer Crimes Unit.
According to village Clerk Rose Bejma, Sabre Consulting is currently gathering information about the incident.
Fortunately, the village’s computer network is separate from the website and its host, so the hacker did not gain access to it, Bejma said.
