John Chiera was sworn as the Oxford Village Police Department’s newest full-time officer at Tuesday night’s council meeting.
Chiera has served as a part-time officer for the village department since December 2001.
“Since that time John has proved himself admirably,” said Police Chief Mike Neymanowski. “He’s worked many shifts for me, many different hours and hasn’t complained a bit. And I’m very confident that he’s going to be an asset to this agency.”
When asked to comment on his new position, Chiera said, “It feels great. I’ve lived in the community over 20 years. I like what I do. I like the community. I enjoy it here and I’m very excited.”
Prior to his career in law enforcement, Chiera worked for the Oxford Fire Department as a paid-on-call firefighter from 1991 to 1998.
