The Paint Creek Trailways Commission is revising their Recreational Master Plan for 2013, and would like citizen input to improve the trail experience.
According to Trail Manager Kristen Meyers, the Commission is considering more parking areas, acquisition of parcels bordering the trail, trailside drinking fountains, and interpretive sites to educate visitors about indigenous flora and fauna or the historical significance of spots along the trail.
Meyers also said one of Paint Creek’s goals this year is?’to connect the two trails in Orion Township by working with the Polly Ann Trail Management Council and the Orion Township Safety Path committee.?
Four possible trail connection routes were proposed in 2008, and the least expensive option is nearing approval, Meyers said.
This path will wind through Lake Orion residential areas, and utilize existent safety paths from the Paint Creek Trail to Glanworth, M-24, along Clarkston Road, Pine Tree Road, Heights, and Joslyn Roads.
The future looks bright for Orion’s Paint Creek Trail, but these are only a few ideas.
The Paint Creek Trailways Commission wants to hear more, and that’s where you come in.
If you’d like to offer your two cents on how to make the trail more useable still, be sure to attend the next Paint Creek Trailways Commission Board meeting on Feb. 19 in Rochester.
