Dear Editor:
The Holiday Lighted Parade in downtown Clarkston was magnificent! The weather was perfect, the crowd was enthusiastic and the parade itself was superb!
I was astonished with the Boy Scout troop that put together that Pine Wood Derby float. I can’t imagine how many days and hours went into the creation ? someone’s heart and soul was on display. It truly was outstanding but, my heart still goes out to the Optimists and the Knights of Columbus and all the others who find every volunteer available to help build a better float each year.
The theme for this year’s parade, Hometown Traditions, says it all. Everyone’s tradition was part of the parade. Some traditions were to build a beautiful float and invite your favorite group to ride and walk down the parade route singing with the crowds. Some traditions were to have a housewarming with all your favorite parade goers and all their friends. Another tradition for families with children and pets was to gather on the streets to meet up with neighbors and acquaintances to share holiday greetings.
The Holiday Lighted Parade is a Hometown Tradition and wouldn’t be possible without the volunteers on the committee.
Personal thanks to Steve and Kelly Hyer, Zoe Aldrich and Connie Morgan for showing their ‘Heart of Clarkston? and taking on endless responsibilities. Logistical thanks to Ernie Combs, chief of police, for making sure that everyone was safe and sound and special physical thanks to Clarkston Community Schools for letting us use the Community Education Building to stage the parade.
Happy Holidays!
