Paws for Life Rescue hosts its first annual Paws in the Park, 12-4 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 22, at Independence Oaks County Park, Lakeview Picnic Pavilion, 9501 Sashabaw Road.
“Independence Oaks County Park is the perfect location for our event,” said Courtney Protz-Sanders, managing director of Paws for Life Rescue. “The half-mile trail is paved and goes through a wooded area, which keeps the dogs and people away from traffic.”
Paws in the Park includes a picnic lunch, half-mile dog walk, bobbing for milkbones, paw art, kiss your owner contest, just-for-fun agility course, massages, and other activities for dogs, children, and adults.
“The park has a spacious pavilion and all the lawn space we need for the doggy carnival games, adoptable pets and vendors,” Protz-Sanders said. “Clarkston is a pet-friendly area. We’re very happy with the partnership between Paws for Life and Independence Oaks County Park.”
A limited amount of canine breed identification test kits will be available for purchase, $10 microchipping available to the first 24 dogs who register at the event, and homeless animals will be available for adoption.
The event is free for dogs and children under age 13. Adults are $10 per person. All proceeds benefit the homeless pets of the not-for-profit animal welfare group.
