As expected, the issue of some unwanted debris in a donated fill at Friendship Park, and the expected cost to clean it up, was back on the township board’s agenda last week.
Some board members explained their frustration over the matter, and one wondered why more information had yet to come back to the board.
‘In our minutes, it said that, ‘the supervisor’s office intends to conduct an internal review on exactly what occurred, when, and who is responsible, to be forwarded to the Board,?? read trustee John Steimel from the March 19 board meeting minutes.
‘Our own minutes don’t support the claim that the supervisor said we didn’t want an investigation,? Steimel added.
The board requested that this investigation be carried out by the supervisor and be put in writing to be brought back before them within 60 days.
‘I don’t think I’m asking for too much when you’re looking at spending a half-million dollars on this,? said former trustee Will Wilsher, who requested that the issue be put on the board’s agenda. ‘The township taxpayers should not be on the hook.?
Trustee Matt Gibb noted that the fill only contained construction debris, not hazardous materials as some have speculated.
In any event, the board hopes that an internal investigation can clear things up.
‘We have now spent a considerable amount, both in money and time spent by township employees,? said Clerk Jill Bastian.
