Parks/rec. truck goes for a dip in Stony Lake

At first glance, it looked like a pickup truck tried to cool itself off by going for a leisurely swim Monday morning at Stony Lake Township Park. But it turns out it was actually the scene of an accident.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s report, a 60-year-old Oxford man was backing up a 2008 Chevy Silverado pickup truck on the asphalt service road that runs alongside the water and leads to the beach area, when he didn’t turn at the bend and ended up driving into the lake.
The driver was a seasonal employee of the Oxford Township Parks and Recreation Department. He was terminated as a result of the accident.
‘I have no idea what he was doing,? said Parks/Rec. Director Ron Davis.
The truck is a department-owned vehicle.
‘It’s down at the dealership right now. It’s covered under insurance,? said Davis, who noted the department will have to pay a $500 deductible.
The truck’s engine was completely submerged.
When the driver side door was opened, a torrent of water gushed forth from the cab.
‘Everything is pretty much toast,? Davis said. ‘They’ll try to replace the engine, I’m sure. They’re going to repair it, they said, because it’s pretty much a brand new truck.?
