Roberta Payne, of Oxford, was honored with the Thomas M. Seykora Award from Grand Valley State University.
The 2001 graduate of Our Lady of the Lakes-Waterford is the daughter of Patrick and Margaret Payne.
The Seykora Award is given to seniors in good academic standing who make outstanding contributions toward improving the GVSU campus.
Since 2003, Payne has reached out to many of her fellow college students and helped them adjust to campus life by serving as a resident assistant and multicultural assistant with the Office of Housing and Residence Life.
Among her many collegiate accomplishments (too numerous to list here), Payne served in the Student Senate for three years and was named Homecoming Regent in 2005 and Most Promising Leader in 2004.
Payne is expected to graduate in April 2006 with two bachelor’s degrees ? one in Public and Non-Profit Administration, the other in Political Science.
