Pearl Harbor Day ceremony

A Pearl Harbor Day ceremony will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 7, at the Oxford American Legion/VFW Post on East Drahner Road in Oxford. Lake Orion resident Ernie Baker, a World War II veteran, will serve as the master of ceremonies, with a number of other veterans from the war making brief commemorative reflections on the fateful day in U.S. history. As a tribute to the music of the time that entertained servicemen and civilians alike, Sunny Bogart, Madeline Dickens, Kim Bogart and Lily Dickens will be performing ‘Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy? as part of the program. As a special bonue, they will be dressed in U.S. Women’s Army Corps uniforms. Winners of the Patriot’s Pen essay contest sponsored by VFW Post 334 will also be recognized and receive awards, as well as the Teacher of the Year. Local winners include Madison Vasher, Ashley Burgess, Cameron Shadaia and Emily Fluent of Oakview Middle School and Kevin Hansen of Waldon Middle School.
