Folks interested in running for a seat on the Oxford Village Council can pick up a nominating petition and affidavit at either the village office (22. W. Burdick St.) or township hall (300 Dunlap Rd.).
All five seats will be up for election in November.
‘There are three four-year terms and two two-year terms available,? said village Clerk Susan Nassar.
To be eligible to run, a person must be at least 21 years old, a registered voter and a village resident for at least six months immediately prior to the date of election.
Potential candidates must obtain valid signatures from at least 25, but no more than 50, registered village voters. Deadline to file the petition is 4 p.m. July 22.
Council members receive $15 for every council meeting they attend. The village holds one regular meeting each month. Council members are also paid for special meetings, but not for committee meetings.
A councilperson’s compensation cannot exceed $500 per year with the exception of the village president, who receives an additional $200. The village president is elected by council from among its members.
The current council consists of three appointed members and two elected members. The elected members are Dave Bailey and Maureen Helmuth, while the appointees are Sue Bossardet, Bryan Cloutier and Elgin Nichols.
Council has so many appointees because since 2012 one council member has died, while two others have resigned.
