Springfield Township Parks and Recreation hosts its first ever pie baking contest, in conjunction with its annual Buck Pole contest, Nov. 15.
Pies will be judged on Presentation, Appearance, Consistency and Taste. Guest judges will be chosen by Springfield Township Parks and Rec.
Pies must be fruit pies that do not require refrigeration. No store bought pies, crusts or fillings ? all ingredients must be homemade. Pies must be cooked in advance and brought to the contest. Recipe will be required on the day of the contest.
Winners will receive awards and the first place winner will be named Springfield Township’s 2009 Pie Baking Master. Winner will also be asked to prepare pie at the Hart Community Center or supply winning pie recipe to sell at next year’s event for the public, ingredients purchased by parks and rec.
Judging starts at 5:30 p.m. at Hart Community Center on Davisburg Road east of downtown. Entry fee is $20.
Springfield Township’s Buck Pole Contest is 3-8 p.m., Nov. 15, at Mill Pond Park.
Scores based on weight, rack spread and number of points, with awards for over all largest buck, largest buck by a female and largest buck by a youth, under 16 years. Door prizes and awards start at 8:05 pm.
