The Springfield Township offices were closed the morning of July 12 by an electrical power outtage that occured while many were still asleep.
DTE Energy Spokesman Len Singer said an electrical disruption was reported by a customer at nearly 3 a.m. due to a utility pole fire near Ormond Road and French Lane. Singer said that a crew worked through the night and had service restored to most customers by 10 a.m.
The cause of the fire is unknown, however Singer said it may have been started by a tree limb making contact with a power line or a transformer failure, but the latter was unlikely.
Township Clerk Nancy Strole said most of the township’s staff were asked not to go to work because of the outtage. Strole estimated the lights were back on by 11:30 a.m. Even with the reduced staff, all township departments were covered, she said. The office was closed for part of the day until power was restored.
