Public input needed for Oakland parks Master Plan

Oakland Township is beginning the process of updating its Parks, Recreation, and Land Preservation Master Plan. Included with this project is a special focus on developing a site development plan for Marsh View Park.
These are useful documents that offer short and long-term strategies for improving and maintaining the parks and recreation system within the township.
The Master Plan will cover issues such as park acreage, active and passive recreation facilities, new parkland opportunities, cooperative recreation efforts, recreation programs and education, and pathway connections.
This project is being led by Oakland Township’s Parks and Recreation Commission and the Parks and Recreation Department. They have hired a community planning consultant (LSL Planning) and a landscape architecture firm (Russell Design) to assist.
The process of developing this important document involves data collection, goal setting, draft plan preparation, plan review, and adoption.
A consistent theme that will run throughout this process is public involvement at each key step.
If you are interested in becoming involved, the plan, specifically Marsh View Park, will be discussed at public meetings.
In addition, the township will host a public workshop specifically devoted to discussing parks, recreation, and land preservation issues.
An Oct. 28 Public Workshop is scheduled; this workshop offers an opportunity to discuss ideasiand concerns.
It will be located at the township administrative offices, 4393 Collins Road, from 7-9 p.m. RSVP to Carol at 248-651-7810.
If you have any questions related to the project or general questions about the township parks, contact Mindy Milos-Dale, park manager at 248 651-7810 or mmdale@oaklandtownship.org.
