Roofs will be raised thanks to the second annual ‘Raise a Glass to Raise a Roof? event, held last Saturday at Christ the Redeemer Church.
The event, planned by Jackie Ebben and Tom Sanna, raised funds for Habitat for Humanity, and will be used to build homes in Pontiac.
‘We actually sold out, which is amazing,? Ebben said, noting the event raised over $15,000.
The event featured over 70 items auctioned in a silent auction, as well as entertainment and appetizers, beer and wine supplied by several local businesses.
According to Ebben, Kruse & Muer, Carrie Lee’s, Mr. G’s, Canterbury King’s Court Castle, Christi’s Bar & Grill, Victoria’s Delights, Harvest Time, Trader Joe’s, Red Knapps, Melissa Attinoto, Janet Lumetta, Southern Tsunami/Kroger and Hollywood Market donated materials.
‘The cost of the event is very minimal so everything we raise goes towards the house, which is a beautiful thing,? Ebben added.
Christ the Redeemer Church is a member of the North Oakland Circle of Faith, along with 15 other churches from Orion, Clarkston, Oxford, Waterford and Ortonville.
According to Sanna, the churches plan to raise over $80,000 in order to build houses in late June, and their goal is to ‘blitz build? a house in two weeks.
Sanna encourages anyone 16 years and older to volunteer to help build, mentioning that it is a rewarding experience that allows teens to fulfill their service learning requirements as well as meet new people.
