To the editor:
(In response to, ‘Month in and month out, we cannot continue to spend more,? by Greg Tankersley, The Citizen, Letters to the Editor, page 7, Jan. 19).
For another consecutive year, Goodrich has received a ‘clean? audit report (‘Village of Goodrich receives ‘clean? audit report, The Citizen, page 4, Jan. 19). Goodrich also has the ‘highest level of assurance for its financial statements.?
With the competence, conscientiousness, and integrity of the prevailing council majority, the village is financially secure. True, money is being spent, which is exactly what good village management is about, spending taxpayer money ? ‘on the taxpayer,? making purchases, upgrades and repairs for the common good and community enhancement. That’s exactly how protecting property values, promoting business growth and all objectives Tankersley cites in his last paragraph are met. No financial mismanagement or scandal found.
No, we’re not relatives or even very acquainted with the four targeted council members. We’re concerned Atlas Township residents weighing in on the current Goodrich recall issue. One can bet we’re keeping an eye on this because if the chief recall initiator and his minions prevail, part or all of Goodrich is absorbed by the township by means of dissolution or detachment, yet another of Tankersley’s pet causes. We’ll bear the brunt of whatever legal entanglements that brings. Who knows how long before one of these chronically angry types start squawking about Atlas Township’s budget management? What ruinous effect will this have on both communities?
He portrays himself in his letter as a reasonable, thoughtful budget pundit, in stark contrast to the individual whose belligerence is a well-known quantity at council/committee meetings and the village offices, to the point that meetings fall apart, and even police action is necessary (article from a previous Citizen news account). Also, it’s no secret that on-line public domain records from various courts attest to his financial /business dealings and anger management issues. It’s simply a bad idea to take financial direction/bullying from him. We’ve made personal observations, read newspapers, called village offices and used the internet. We’re leery when someone bursts on the scene, thrusts himself into the public arena, makes loud accusations, gives no meaningful positive contribution, generates shiploads of ill will, and then runs for office (losing, fortunately). Yet, ‘it’s not about him.?
His ongoing attempts to vilify the current council are tedious and tiresome. Just because Tankersley reads a copy of the treasurer’s report does not mean he correctly interprets the data.
This recall action is groundless and meritless, so are the people behind it.
