Recognized for hard work

Clarkston Board of Education honored nine teachers and staff members Monday with Employee Recognition awards:
Amy Black, special education teacher, Sashabaw Middle School, for excelling in classroom instruction and extras, such as tailgate parties and Thanksgiving feast for her student;
Meredith Copland, second-grade teacher, Bailey Lake Elementary School, for ideas such as “Keyboarding Camp,” Web-page design, and running club for students when training for a marathon;
Mary Fogg, building health aide, Clarkston High School, keeping track of students’ medical and dietary needs, even after school;
Judy Kowalski, counseling secretary, Clarkston High School, putting in long hours after school to keep students and parents organized;
Laura Keenan, special education paraeducator, Clarkston High School, working with five severely cognitively impaired students;
Gloria Lacy, fifth grade teacher, Springfield Plains Elementary School, working on her own to help individual students, serving as a student advocate, and advising student council;
Don Spring, head custodian, Independence Elementary School, taking on additional staff such as reading to students, helping out during study hall, and talking to students in the hallway and lunchroom;
Kim Werner, classroom aide, Clarkston Elementary School, creating activites for center rotation, and grade-level bulletin boards and student displays; and
Eric Yeloushan, second grade teacher, Andersonville Elementary School, designing technology workshops for staff, researching new teaching methods, and writing songs for his students.
