Reindeer Races for CIA

Hit the track for a good cause this weekend, at Christmas In Action’s Night at the Races.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 20, at Knights of Columbus Hall, 5660 Maybee Road.
Dinner is at 7 p.m., with races starting at 8 p.m.
‘We’ll have mac and cheese from the Union and chicken salad from Rudy’s,? said Diane Midgley, CIA president.
Brimacombe Landscaping, Clarkston Area Lions Club, Clarkston State Bank, Floor Trends, Boomers, Rudy’s Market, Mercado Dental, The Print Shop and other local businesses sponsor and decorate wooden reindeer for the races.
People use Reindeer Bucks to bet on races, progress of which are determined by dice rolls. An emcee provides color commentary as the racers move down the track.
All proceeds will go to Clarkston Area Christmas in Action’s annual Work Day, this year set for April 24.
‘We raise money to help our neighbors ? it’s a good thing,? Midgley said.
More than 100 volunteers with the nonprofit group help local seniors in need with carpentry, electrical, home repair and other services, all free to the recipient.
‘They have many things that need to be fixed and no one to help them. That’s where we come in,? she said.
Tickets are $20. Cash bar with beer and wine available. For more information or to buy a ticket, call 248-625-4711.
