The Clarkston High School Class of 1954 were in good spirits at Shepherd’s Hollow Golf Club, July 25, celebrating their 60th reunion with lunch and memories.
The reminisced about their time at the high school, which is still in use as Renaissance High and community education. It was close enough to downtown to head there after class for milk shakes and ice cream floats.
“It was like Happy Days,” said Ed Dubats.
‘We would go to Dairy Bar, across the street from Morgan’s,? said Cheryl Dubats, his classmate and wife.
“We’d have huge bonfires for Halloween. Life was very good,” Ed said.
Ed and Cheryl were friends at high school but didn’t date. The couple reconnected at the 45th class reunion, and were married by the 50th reunion.
A Clarkston resident since 1949, Cheryl remembers working for Bill Stamp, publisher of The Clarkston News, helping to prepare the newspapers for the mail.
“The Clarkston News was printed across the street from my house,” Cheryl remembered. “I would go over there after school on Thursdays and fold papers. They were big, with one page inserts ? Mr. Stamp was a gentleman, a very nice man.?
