Brandon Twp.-This past week, Oakland County Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard ordered flags at half staff at Sheriff Office buildings and L.Brooks Patterson, Oakland County executive, has requested flags be lowered at all county buildings to honor and remember Deputy Eric Overall who was killed in the line of duty one year ago on Nov. 23, 2017.
Deputy Overall was responding to a call for assisting in apprehending a suspect who was fleeing deputies in Lapeer County.
Overall set up stop sticks in the roadway and waited to the side for the suspect’s vehicle to pass. The suspect slowed and after seeing Overall, deliberately aimed his vehicle and struck him.
“We miss our brother dearly and commit to his continue to honor his legacy and impact he made on this agency and the community he served,” said Sheriff Bouchard.
Overall served as a deputy and a Brandon School district liaison officer for several years.
“The deputies of Brandon Township substation, along with myself truly appreciate the support and concern expressed this past week on the first anniversary of Eric Overall’s death,” said Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Brandon substation commander Lt. Greg Glover. “We have opted to minimize the remembrance so the Overall family and substation can strive to move on from the tragic events of Thanksgiving 2017. We appreciate the community’s support and encourage residents to place a wreath or display a blue bulb as their porch light in Eric’s honor.”
Eric’s funeral was a memorable event prompting a variety of tributes in this community, added Glover.
“A special thank you to the township residents, the Brandon Blackhawk football team, Head Coach Brad Zube, the Brandon School’s faculty and the Brandon bus drivers who tied blue ribbon on their buses in Eric’s honor. We appreciate the township’s support, and the many phone calls we have received this week.”
