Once in a while an entertainer holds a crowd through a kind of inner joy that is translated through their interpretation of music.?
Reggie Harrison holds a crowd that way.? Whether she’sings one of her own compositions or a popular song, the crowd is hers.? People can feel the joy that’comes from her love of music, even if it’s a soulful song.? What matters to’Reggie is the song’s rhythm and beauty.? The process.? And whoever listens, can feel it.
‘That’s success: the communication between the artist and the crowd.?
Reggie comes from a musical family. ‘Her grandfather was Sam Sferlazza, a well known band leader in the ?30s & 40’s, and her’brother is’Guy Lewis who does the popular children’s and family entertainment, the Chautauqua Express.? Then there are her children: son Guy Daniel Harrison, a singer/song writer, and son Dustin Harrison who’plays bass, as well as daughter Hailey Harrison who plays the violin.
No stranger to art of all kinds, Reggie recently stepped down as Director of the Orion Art Center to begin a new career with Common Ground.? During her tenure with the Art Center, she balanced the relationship between community residents, local artists, schools, plus the founding of Dragon on the Lake and its myriad community sponsors, with her own passion for preserving the’viability of the Art Center.?’During this time,’she appeared with several different musical groups at large and small venues’all over greater Detroit.
Currently, Reggie appears with a musical ensemble, Reggie and the Rebels, featuring pop, soft rock, some original music, plus favorites. ‘Don Gindhardt, owner of the new downtown Lake Orion North 51 Brewery, due to open in the fall, is a proud member of the ensemble.
They will be appearing at the Orion Township Amphitheater next Tuesday as part of the free Orion Township Tuesday Music Series at the Orion Township’s New Wildwood Pavilion, Aug. 7, from 7-8:30. ?
‘This is a great opportunity to get some friends together, bring a picnic, and enjoy an evening of music at Orion’s newest outdoor music venue,? said Harrison.??
