Residents have fun celebrating a new season for village parks

The warm, sunny weather on Saturday, June 2, helped make the first Park Celebration Day a success. Park Celebration Day was held at Green’s Park and was free for all who attended.
Visitors could take part in making crafts, swimming, an assortment of water balloon games and could enjoy food provided by Lake Orion’s Park and Recreation committee. The Lake Orion Police Department had a table set up with coloring books, stickers and bike registration forms for the children to fill out. Prizes were available to the children who won the different games.
Parks and Recreation had surveys on Lake Orion parks for guests to fill out and state their opinions.
According to Mike Toth, Park Celebration Day was to ‘celebrate the opening of park season? for all of the parks in the village. Toth is a member of the Village council and Lake Orion’s Park and Recreation Advisory Committee.
Saturday was the first time Lynne Koscica and her children Frank, 5, and Sam, 2, had been to Green’s Park. The boys had fun playing in the water and digging in the sand. Frank also participated in a water balloon toss.
The Parks and Recreation committee appreciated the help from all the volunteers who set-up and assisted in activities, especially Pete Peterson and Dave Williams.
Toth said that Park Celebration Day will be an annual event.
Visitors to Green’s Park must have a pass, which may be obtained at Village Hall. Park rules state that children under the age of 12 must be accompanied by an adult. On-duty lifeguards are in charge of park usage. Glass containers and alcoholic beverages are not allowed in the park at any time. Pets are not permitted in the park at any time.
Rules for water safety at Green’s Park are posted next to the lake.
