Instead of stopping by the supermarket for fruits and veggies, Mark Angelini and Trevor Newman of Roots to Fruits Ecological Design want you to grow it yourself.
Residents learned about North Oakland County’s agricultural history and brainstormed ways to get the community involved in growing their own foods at the ‘Local Food Starts at Home? event on August 30.
The educational workshop was sponsored by Roots to Fruits and featured ‘local food heroes? like Bob McGowan of Bittersweet Farms, Diane and John Franklin of Rocky Gardens Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), and Jim Tesnar the manager of the Clarkston Community Garden.
Each speaker described the challenges and successes of growing fruits and vegetables in an effort to live healthier, educate, and give back to the community.
Roots to Fruits hopes to challenge the local community in their 100 Yarden Dash, which asks property owners to convert some or all of their yards to food production. To find out more check www.rootstofruits.biz.
