Residents want gravel trucks to stay off their road

The Orion Township Board of Trustees will send a letter asking the Road Commission for Oakland County to not allow trucks on Indian Lake Road, at the request of the citizens there.
The board heard a request from Indian Lake resident Anne Marie Cummings at the Sept. 20 meeting, asking the board to send a letter on behalf of the township to the RCOC, asking them to put up a sign stating ‘No trucks allowed except for local deliveries.?
According to Cummings, Indian Lake has been used by gravel truck drivers as a thoroughfare for at least five years, with as many as 24 trucks counted traveling on the road between the hours of 7:30 a.m. and 6:40 p.m.
Cummings said the drivers take Conklin Road to Indian Lake, and Barr Road to Drahner Road to the gravel pit in Oxford. Because of this, Indian Lake needs to be graded and chlorided many more times during the year than it normally would be, due to the truck traffic.
‘Indian Lake Road residents pay a fee for chloride. Houses are shaken and vehicle alarms are sounding off because of the noise from the trucks,? Cummings stated in her agenda item request to the board.
The trustees voted to send a letter to the RCOC asking for the sign.
‘We didn’t know about this when we had our report on Indian Lake Road,? said clerk Jill Bastian. ‘This was what the road commission was recommending…they said our support could help make it happen.?
