Brandon Twp.- Taxes are on the rise statewide, with an increase in the state income tax and a new sales tax on some services recently approved, but locally, residents will see a reduction in their taxes next year.
Township Supervisor Ron Lapp said millage rates were set Sept. 28, and the township is reducing the fire millage for equipment and housing by half a mill, police millage by a quarter mill, and the library debt millage by a tenth of a mill.
A taxpayer with a home that has a taxable value of $100,000 will save about $86 per year with the new millage reductions.
‘Residents will see a little savings in their taxes next year,? said Lapp. ‘We had enough surplus in the police funds and we’re paying down the library debt. Anything we can do to help taxpayers is a plus. We want a rainy day fund, but not one so large. We should operate so the money is not in our pockets, but the taxpayers?.?
The library debt millage levied will be .5000; the fire millage will be .5922; and the police millage will be 3.2500; The fire operating millage remains the same at 3.2983 and the general township millage rate will stay at 1 mill. Fire millage rates are levied on real property only. All other millages are levied on real and personal property.
The township will have a public hearing on the township budget in late November or early December. Watch The Citizen for details.
