Revenue sharing cuts impact twp. budgets

Five Oxford Township budgets will see a small reduction in their revenue from the state this year.
The township board last week voted to reduce by 5.2 percent its allocation of this year’s statutory revenue sharing monies to the township library and the library’s debt retirement fund, parks and recreation, police contracting fund, and the fire fund.
This ‘reduced amount will remain constant until further notice,? according to the board’s motion.
Oxford Township was originally supposed to receive a total of $177,647 in statutory revenue sharing monies from the state in 2004. However, an Executive Order from the governor reduced that amount by 5.2 percent ($53,093), meaning the township will receive $124,554 this year.
As a result, the township reduced by 5.2 percent ($1,171.14) its annual allocation of a portion of the statutory revenue sharing monies it receives to five of its other taxing units. The breakdown is as follows:
n Oxford Township Library will now receive $3,585.18 ? a loss of $196.66.
n Oxford Township Library Debt will now receive $1,828.92 ? a loss of $100.32.
n Oxford Township Parks and Recreation will now receive $2,189.08 ? a loss $120.08.
n Oxford Township Police Contracting will now receive $10,790.48 ? a loss of $591.88.
n Oxford Township Fire Fund will now receive $2,957.11 ? a loss of $162.20.
Last year, the township passed along the 3 percent cut it received from the state to these funds.
