Oxford resident and Mexican immigrant Angelica Rodriguez has been named as one of four scholarship winners for Madonna University.
Rodriguez will receive the Latinos de Livonia scholarship and was honored at a Nov. 8 dinner.
The $1,200 scholarship will cover two terms –Fall 2008 and Winter 2009.
The sophomore has bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Mexico and is now studying for her teacher certification at Madonna University. She added that because she’s in a single-income family, the scholarship will help alleviate her family’s financial strain.
The scholarship, began at MU in 1989, is awarded to Hispanic students with a grade point average of 2.5 or better who have demonstrated a financial need.
Over the years, Latinos de Livonia has granted some 64 scholarships to nearly 50 students.
Madonna University is a Livonia-based independent Catholic liberal arts university with more than 75 undergraduate and 32 graduate programs.
