Brandon Twp.-Those traveling on Sashabaw Road may notice a change at the intersection at Oak Hill Road.
The intersection, which had been a blinking yellow light for Sashabaw and a blinking red and stop sign for Oak Hill, has now become a 4-way stop.
The change was approved at the Nov. 9 meeting of the Road Commission for Oakland County board as a temporary fix while other options are explored.
This sudden change took many residents by surprise.
“There was never an official schedule,” said Craig Bryson, senior manager of communications and public information the RCOC. “Our board approved the change at its meeting Nov. 9, meaning the change could happen any time after that.”

A 4-way stop is only a temporary change, to help alleviate the amount of accidents at that intersection.
“The reason for the change is there was growing number of serious injury crashes at the intersection.” he said. “Given that, we wanted to make the change as quickly as possible.”
The RCOC will be looking into other options for that intersection, but felt that this was a problem that needed to be addressed immediately.
“We are seeking funds for a permanent solution, which will include either widening the intersection for a traffic signal (adding turn lanes and signals) or reconstructing the intersection as a roundabout,” said Bryson. “Either option is likely to cost about $2 million.”
Studies will be conducted to find out which option will be the best solution, and there is no time frame on the rehab of the intersection because a funding source has not yet been determined.
