School board, bond extension key in vote

During an election May 2, voters will choose two candidates for the Brandon School Board and decide whether to approve a bond extension for the Brandon School District.
Greg Allar and Diane Wiley are the candidates for the two open school board seats.
The Brandon School Board is also seeking approval of a bond extension which would net about $73,400,000 for several major renovations, technology upgrades, and construction of a new elementary school and activities complex.
The bond extension would not increase the 8.24 mills residents pay per year in school taxes, instead, it would add six years to a loan that currently stands at $29 million owed and which would be paid off in 2026.
The polls will be open from 7 a.m.-8 p.m. in the Brandon School District: Precinct 1 and 2? Brandon Fletcher Intermediate School, 300 South St.; Precinct 3 and 4? Brandon Fire Station #2, 3065 S. Sashabaw; and Precinct 5? Sashabaw Meadows Clubhouse, 4359 Dogwood.
