A bomb threat at Oxford Middle School last week thankfully turned out to be a hoax.
According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s report, the parent of a sixth-grade girl contacted the law enforcement agency at 10:40 p.m.Thursday, Nov. 4 after her daughter informed her that a sixth-grade boy told her ‘he was afraid to come to school tomorrow? because another sixth-grade boy ‘had threatened to put a bomb in his locker.?
Sheriff’s personnel immediately contacted OMS Assistant Principal Joyce Brasington, who lives in Oxford, and informed her of the situation.
The sheriff’s K-9 Unit was called to the school and deputies conducted a complete search of the grounds. No explosive devices were located.
The next morning school custodians and administrative staff searched the entire building prior to students? arrival, according to Superintendent Virginia Brennan-Kyro.
Administrative staff then met with the sixth-grade staff to inform them of the situation and proper protocols.
When students arrived, they were directed to immediately report to their respective classrooms and not permitted to go to their lockers, Brennan-Kyro said. All sixth-grade book-bags, backpacks and lockers were then thoroughly searched by school staff
The sixth-grade male student who allegedly made the bomb threat was identified and is facing disciplinary action in accordance with the district’s student code of conduct, which could mean punishment ranging from suspension to expulsion, according to Brennan-Kyro.
Oakland County Sheriff’s Lt. Al Whitefield, commander of the Oxford substation, said no criminal charges will be filed against the student (who’s new to the school district this year) due to his young age and the fact that his alleged statement is ‘all hearsay.?
‘There’s no proof he made the statement,? Whitefield said.
