School district responds to teacher’s arrest

On July 3, 2008, Oxford High School teacher consultant Margaret Keely, was arraigned in Independence Township 52-2 District Court on a criminal charge of failure to report child abuse in connection with a 16-year-old OHS female student. Ms. Keely’s husband, William, was also arraigned on numerous charges, including three felony counts of child sexual abuse, involving the same student.
Oxford Community Schools considers these charges to be of the utmost seriousness and has accordingly taken action to suspend Ms. Keely from any and all teaching responsibilities and to remove her from the school setting, from attending any school functions, and from having contact with any Oxford students pending resolution of the criminal case and/or future action by the school district.
The alleged misconduct of Ms. Keely constitutes unprofessional conduct in the extreme and if proven will in no manner be tolerated by the Oxford Community Schools. The school district will take all actions necessary to assure that a teacher found to have committed the actions presently alleged will have no further contact with or responsibility regarding the students attending its schools.
