Schools benefit from life-saving equipment

Each of Lake Orion School District’s 11 school buildings will receive Automated External Defibrillators, through the cooperation and generosity of Troy Beaumont.
Lake Orion Schools Supt. Christine Lehman said the district values the cooperation it has with Troy Beaumont.
‘We’ve developed an excellent relationship with them,? she said, ‘and ‘we’re very appreciative for this donation.?
The Medtronic LIFEPAK AEDs help combat sudden cardiac arrest — an electrical malfunction resulting in heart arrhythmia or ventricular fibrillation, which claims the lives of about 330,000 Americans each year.
An AED uses large electrodes placed on a victim’s bare chest to analyze the heart’s rhythm and to deliver a pulse of electricity when arrhythmia is detected. Ideally, defibrillation should occur within the first three minutes of a victim’s collapse.
The device has built-in safeguards to prevent a shock from being delivered if is not appropriate, allowing non-medical personnel to administer this life-saving technology.
