Oxford resident J.T. Scollin was recently selected as his school’s recipient of the Winter Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) Scholar Athlete Award.
An eighth-grader at the Marist Academy, a Catholic school in Pontiac, Scollin earned the award for his performance on the basketball court and in the classroom, where he maintains a grade point average above 4.0.
‘He’s definitely a hard worker,? said mom Yvonne Scollin. ‘No matter how busy he is outside of school, he still gets his homework done.?
Scollin will attend high school at Notre Dame Prep this fall. Notre Dame awarded Scollin a $2,000 scholarship, the highest amount the school offers.
The young man began playing basketball when he was 5 years old at Basketball America in Orion.
Prior to playing for Marist Academy, Scollin shot hoops for St. Joseph’s School in Lake Orion from fourth through sixth-grade.
