To the editor:
Dearest Citizen newspaper, my son Scott Statson, Jr. (18, Freshman in college) wrote a letter into The Citizen regarding his views on the ‘Goodrich High School Senior Prank? (‘Tell both sides of the story,? The Citizen, Oct. 27, page 6). I would like to voice my opinion of this issue.
First off, I want to say that even though my son has friends who were caught doing this prank, I have no connections and actually have been trying to keep my nose out of this. My insight into this is limited. But as I told my son, there are two sides to every story. While senior pranks seem to be a very common thing in school and in Goodrich, that does not make them right. It is my understanding that for many years the senior class has had a key to the school for such pranks. As a kid you interpret this key as a ‘permission slip? and it might have been. But again, that does not make it right.
Were the kids who did the ‘prank? treated unfairly? Maybe, but as my mother has always told me, ‘life is not fair.? And remember, we live in a time where things are taken out of context to an extreme. You can’t tell an attractive women that she looks nice without committing some sort of crime. You cannot have nail clippers in your bag while getting on a plane??.heck, maybe you can now, but the rules change so frequently that I am not up-to-date on this one.
In my opinion, I think we need a school statue or school rock?..you know, one of those things that the senior class can paint up and write ‘seniors rule??’or something like that, that is fun and harmless. But heck, the school board may rule that rocks are unsafe and require a plastic surface that is non-toxic and will not contaminate the environment. Yep, we tend to go to extremes nowadays. Seniors Rule!
