A three vehicle crash that occurred on M-15 south of Oakhill Road at 6:15 a.m.on Nov. 28 remains under investigation by the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Crash Reconstruction Unit.
The crash involved a 47-year-old Shelby Township resident driving a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee, a 47-year-old Ortonville Resident driving a 2004 Dodge Ram and a 28-year-old Burton resident driving a 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix.
Witnesses indicate the Jeep Grand Cherokee, traveling north on M-15, went left of center, crossing over into southbound traffic. The Jeep sideswiped the Dodge Ram heading south and then continued north in the southbound lane striking the Grand Prix head on.
The Pontiac Grand Prix was pushed into the west side ditch where it caught fire. The Burton resident was trapped in the vehicle. OCSO Deputies and members from Brandon Township Fire department entered the fully engulfed vehicle, freed the driver and pulled him from the vehicle.
The Burton resident driving the Grand Prix was transported to Genesys Hospital and is listed in very critical condition with severe burns. The driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee was transported to Genesys Hospital and is listed in serious condition. The driver of the Dodge Ram was not injured.
Alcohol did not appear to be a factor. The driver of the Dodge Ram and Pontiac Grand Prix were wearing seat belts, but the driver of the Jeep Grand Cherokee was not restrained.
Deputy Tom Poulin of the Crash Reconstruction Unit verified the accident was still under investigation.
