PFC Barak Thomas, 2006 graduate of Clarkston High School, completed Army basic training, June 19, at Ft. Jackson, S.C.
He is the son of Dan and Candy Thomas and brother of Trisha Thomas.
Barak is continuing his training with the Army in a 10-week Advanced Individual Training in financial management.

Navy Airman Nicholas P. Horton, son of Marjorie A. Robinson of Oakland Township and Richard L. Horton of Clarkston, was recently selected as Blue Jacket of the Quarter with Patrol Squadron 47, Marine Corps Base, Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii.
Horton was chosen as the top performer from among all the Sailors assigned to the command and was cited for outstanding professional accomplishment, proficiency, leadership, initiative and military bearing.
Horton joined the Navy in September 2003.

Pvt. Mario Ambriz-Veloz, 18, of Clarkston, a 2005 graduate of Clarkston High School, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on July 16.
Pvt. Veloz mastered 13 rigorous weeks of training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, Parris Island, South Carolina on Oct. 14. Following graduation, he is required to complete seven weeks at Marine Corps School of Infantry at Camp Geiger, North Carolina.
He will then report to Camp Lejuene, North Carolina for training in the Military Occupational Field of Infantry.
After completing training, Pvt. Veloz will perform his duties as a Marine Corps Infantry Rifleman in the Fleet Marin Force.
Pvt. Veloz is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Mario and Silvia Ambriz-Veloz, of Clarkston.

Navy fireman recruit Joseph E. Jacques, son of Kristine and James E. Jacques of Clarkston, recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command in Illinois.
During the eight-week program, Jacques completed a variety of training which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, fire fighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety. An emphasis was also placed in physical fitness.
The capstone event of boot camp was ‘Battle Stations.? This exercise gives recruits the skills and confidence they need to succeed in the fleet.
‘Battle Stations? is designed to galvanize the basic warrior attributes of sacrifice, dedication, teamwork and endurance in each recruit through the practical application of basic Navy skills and the core values of honor, courage and commitment. It’s distinctly ‘Navy? flavor was designed to take into account what it means to be a sailor.
Jacques is a 2002 graduate of Clarkston High School.

Air Force Airman Bryston L. Pabst has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas.
During the six weeks of training, the airman studied the Air Force mission, organization, and military customs and courtesies; performed drill and ceremony marches, and received physical training, rifle marksmanship, field training exercises, and special training in human relations.
In addition, airmen who complete basic training earn credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force.
Pabst is the son of G.L. and Kris Pabst of Old Oaks Lane, Davisburg, Mich.
He is a 2004 graduate of Clarkston High School, Mich.
