There’s a shy dog at the Oxford Veterinary Hospital in need of a loving, patient family.
His name is George and he’s a black 8-year-old Lab-Setter mix.
He’s lived at the clinic on Lincoln Street since his owner longtime Oxford resident Al Oberstaedt passed away in December.
‘We’ve interviewed a few homes for him, but it just hasn’t worked out,? said veterinarian and hospital owner Dr. Stephen Steep. ‘He needs a loving home where somebody can really work with him.?
Steep described George as ‘very, very shy.?
‘He’s getting used to other animals and other people, but it’s a slow process,? he said. ‘We’ve been bringing him out and socializing him. He’s real good with women. He’s just scared of men. He had one male owner and that was his buddy.?
‘You just have to move slowly with him,? Steep explained. ‘He gets spooked and runs.?
Although George doesn’t exhibit any aggressive behavior, Steep said, ‘I wouldn’t want him to feel cornered or threatened because he’s just not sure of things.?
‘His life’s been turned upside down,? the doctor noted.
Health wise, George is in good condition. He only had a few minor issues such as poor grooming, sores on his elbows, ear infections and some parasites.
‘Just routine stuff we took care of,? Steep said.
George is up-to-date on all his vaccinations and plans are to neuter him before he leaves.
Whoever takes George in will be able to do so on a trial basis. If it doesn’t work out, Steep said he can always return to the hospital.
