An article earlier this year in The Review claimed that current seniors Ashley Bringard and Lindsey Van Norman, who both signed with Oakland Community College, were believed to be the first LOHS volleyball players to sign to play collegiately.
In fact, former Volleyball Coach Mike Hatch confirmed that three other Dragons have previously played in college.
The last was Samantha Miller, a 1998 grad who played at Northwood College. Others included Cara Marker (?92), who was inducted into the Kalamazoo College Hall of Fame in 2006, and Jennifer Rosenmund (?87), a two-year captain at Hillsdale College.
The Feb. 6 edition of ‘The LO Down? said that Drew Maynard was the first Dragon basketball star to sign with a Division I program.
Hatch noted that 6?9? Gary Mize, who helped lead Lake Orion to district titles in 1968 and ?69, committed to Morehead State, a Kentucky school that is a member of the Ohio Valley Conference.
