At Monday night’s Oxford Board of Education meeting, Superintendent Dr. William Skilling made his only public statements regarding his status as a candidate for the Granville, Ohio superintendent position.
He stressed that he was ‘recruited? for the position. He did not go looking for it.
‘I interviewed with (the Granville school board) in a closed session and talked to some community members, but I left saying I’m not ready to apply yet. I still want to think about this,? Skilling said. ‘But in order to have me considered in the process, I needed to talk with the board while they were going though the process.?
‘At this point, I still have not submitted any paperwork or application because I said the timing doesn’t feel right to me, not yet. And I said I need more time to think about it.?
‘At this point, I’m not an official applicant,? he stressed to the board. ‘I’m not an official candidate. I did interview privately. But I have not submitted any paperwork, so it’s not official until I have to fill out the application, give them paperwork, none of which I’ve done yet.?
Skilling said he told the Granville board to give him two weeks because he wanted to focus on his Dec. 8-20 trip to China and talk things over with the Oxford school board.
Skilling also talked about why he came to Oxford and his future.
‘My objective was come and get the initiatives done that we started and then, as a lot of you know, my long-term goal is really to be a professor and do consulting work at some university someday,? he said. ‘I’ve been teaching part-time for 16 years.?
Skilling noted, ‘I didn’t think I’d ever want to do another superintendent (position), the stress is too much. Sometimes you have people disagree with you on occasion. Rumor has it anyways.?
