SLUM City offers good Joe and jams

Brandon Twp – Starting this month a local church is featuring area musicians in a coffeehouse setting called “SLUM”, short for Seymour Lake United Methodist.
The city coffeehouse will be set up in the UMC hall of the Seymour Lake United Methodist Church, located at 3050 Sashabaw Road. Each month, for a small donation of $5, residents can share coffee and desserts to the folk-type sounds of the local genre.
November’s featured artist is song- writer and acoustic musician Dan Hazlett.
Hazlett, who hails from southeast Michigan, is touring in celebration of the release of his fourth CD, “Family Album.”
Listeners will discover how Hazlett’s folk tunes take a jazzy look at the complex relationships in modern families. Written with humor and heart warming lyrics, Hazlett relates his stories with a multitude of instrumental expression including acoustic guitar, trumpet, harmonica, and percussion.
Other SLUM Michigan artist offerings include an appearance by the Rochester duo “Home Soon” featuring Aaron Rhodes and Jana Rotarius blending guitar and vocals for a bold, pervasive sound.
