Snowed out

Clarkston’s boys golf team finished its season at the regional finals at the Flushing Valley Golf Club on Oct. 16.
The team finished in fifth place out of the 12 contestants, shooting a combined 333. Only the top three teams, Waterford Kettering (310), Grand Blanc (318), and Davison (321), qualified to move on to the state finals.
Matt fuller carded a round of 79 to lead the Wolves. Jordan Roth shot 83, Blake Schmidt 85 and Chris Craczyk shot an 86 to round out the team.
‘We picked the wrong time to have a bad day,? Clarkston Coach Mark Wiegand said.
‘I don’t know what caused our game not to be there.
‘It’s hard (to win) when all five guys are well above their averages,? Wiegand added.
Wiegand knew the team’s lack of playoff experience could potentially hinder their play.
The match started on Oct. 12. Due to the snowfall that day, play was suspended after the team completed two holes. The continuation of play had no effect on the Wolves? play, Wiegand said, because the weather conditions were hospitable for golf.
The coach said the team had a good season, but would like to still be playing.
‘They had a nice season, we won a couple of tournaments’we played well at times and we were highly ranked,? Wiegand said.
Wiegand said next year’s crop of players should be a good one also. Between those coming up from the junior varsity and those on varsity who didn’t see much playing time. The Wolves will lose four of its seniors, two of whom played in every match.
