The Dragons turned the tables on Clarkston, Saturday, Oct. 18 when they went into double overtime beating the Wolves 2- 1 to claim their first district championship trophy since 2006.
‘Clarkston was the state champion last year so this is a very good win,? said Soccer Coach, Matt Paukovits. ‘All of our games with Clarkston have been extremely close this year. We finished second in the league to Clarkston so it was good to beat them.?
Clarkston won the conference by one game over Lake Orion this year and defeated the Dragons twice in the regular season. The Dragons finished their season 15-6 and are among the top 16 soccer teams in Michigan.. Attacking midfield player, Reed Losee, a junior this year, made 24 goals this year however Paukovits said each win has been a total team effort.
‘I would say that without any one individual player, we probably wouldn’t have won the game,? said Paukovits ‘Winning the district championship means a lot to us. We have had a lot of expectations for ourselves this year and this was one we felt we could accomplish and get done. We are very proud.?
Tonight at 5 p.m. the Dragons play their first regional game against Grand Blanc at Saginaw Heritage High School. If they win at regionals then it’s on to the state semi-finals and then state final.
