Players and spectators who utilize the softball complex at Seymour Lake Township Park will notice a new sign dedicating it to the memory of Alyse Prince.
‘We thought it would be a fitting tribute to recognize her at the site where she made the biggest impact in so many lives,? said Parks Director Ron Davis. ‘Girls softball, youth softball, that was her love.?
The sign (shown above) went up last week and the presentation was made during the Seymour Celebration on July 5-6.
From December 1992 until her passing on Oct. 28, 2011, Prince served as an elected member of the Oxford Township Parks and Recreation Commission.
Davis will always remember Prince as a ‘dynamic lady? who tirelessly supported many department projects and ‘always asked the right questions? at commission meetings.
Prince had a passion for girls softball.
Davis previously recalled one of the happiest moments in her career as a parks/rec. commissioner was when he approached the board about allowing female softball players to wear uniform pants (as opposed to jeans) just like the guys and the board approved it.
‘Alyse had been trying to get that done for years,? he said. ‘That made so much progress, in her eyes, for the girls to be treated equally.?
