Spikers chalk up two more wins

It was a great week for the Oxford girls varsity volleyball team as it won both league matches against Troy and Rochester Adams.
This brought their league record up to 2-2 and their overall record to 25-10-2.
The girls kicked their week off on Tuesday by beating Troy in three matches ? 27-25, 25-21 and 25-18.
‘The girls played great together and really stepped up their game and teamwork as we were missing a key component of our offense in outside hitter Nicole Elzerman, who was out due to illness,? Head Coach LaToria Thomas explained. ‘I was very proud of senior Marie Matheis and freshman Paige Briggs for bringing the power and consistency at the outside position.?
Top scorers were Matheis: 10 kills, Briggs: seven kills, Grace Wysocki:11 kills, Lisa Savich:12 kills, Elle Wright: 5 kills, Hailey Harwick:17 digs and Amanda Schlicht: 33 assists.
Fired up, the girls headed to Adams on Thursday ready to play, going 3-2 against Rochester with a 25-21 win, 24-26 loss, 25-15 win, 19-25 loss, and 15-10 win.
‘The girls started out very strong each game serving tough and putting the pressure on Adams early. We maintained control of the game throughout the entire match by never giving up our lead,? Thomas said. ‘I always tell the girls to establish a lead early (so then) a few mistakes/errors won’t hurt us. They did an excellent job of siding out immediately and getting the ball back, which is something we’ve been trying to make consistent throughout the season, so I was happy to see the mental focus there tonight.?
Thomas noted that everyone contributed to the win and overall, they ‘played very well against a very good Rochester team.?
‘The girls were very aggressive and played smart offensively and we blocked well. Our middles worked extremely hard on defense and offense, making themselves available,? she added. ‘We dropped two games to Rochester and I think we made too many unforced errors in those games like missed serves and hitting errors, but we bounced back and ultimately took the match.?
Top scorers included Nicole Elzerman: 16 kills, Paige Briggs: seven kills, Grace Wysocki: 10 kills; 5 blocks, Lisa Savich: 12 Kills, five blocks, Elle Wright: 5 kills; 3 aces, Hailey Hartwick: 26 digs and Amanda Schlicht: 40 assists and 3 aces.
The girls travel to Stoney Creek on Thursday, Oct. 8 before coming home Saturday, Oct. 10 for the Oxford Invitational, which starts at 8 a.m.
