Spikers end tough season with losses

The Ladycats were defeated in the last two of the three Flint Metro League games to finish up the season at 7-7.
The Ladycats beat Linden, and they lost matches to both Brandon and Holly.
Against Linden, Oxford downed the Eagles in three games to post the win.
Senior Courtney Wright had eight kills and 5 aces in the victory.
At home last Thursday, Oxford had a difficult time keeping up with Brandon and lost the game in four matches.
Sophomore Karlyn Stroope had 8 kills and 2 aces.
In their last league game of the season, the Ladycats struggled to put together a full game against Holly and came away with another loss in four games.
Stroope was the top contributor again with 6 kills and two blocks.
‘We are much better than a .500 team, I have no doubts about that,? McDevitt reflected. ‘The problem this season thus far has been the emotional roller coaster this team has been riding on. Some games we show up for and play our game, and some games we show up and struggle against average teams. It has been a day to day thing with this group.?
The Ladycats have the MHSSA District tournament this weekend in North Branch. Oxford drew a bye in the first round and will play the winner of the Lapeer East and Lapeer West match. Oxford will take the court around 11am on Saturday, March 4.
‘We have just as much chance as anyone to come out of this district champs,? McDevitt stated. ‘The key will be not backing down from any team we face, to play our game with heart and intensity, and to fight tooth and nail for the championship.?

JV Volleyball
The junior varsity Ladycats capped off their impressive season with a win against Holly on Monday night. The JV team finished with a 13-1 record. Against the Bronchos, Rachael Precour and Allison Dattolo had 4 kills each, and setter Irene Miner had 8 aces on the night.
Major contributors on the season was middle hitter Kelsey Girardot who finished the season injured, but had the most kills on the team with 162. Left side hitter Jacqui Sylva finished with 59, and right side hitter Alexandra Johnson had 56 kills on the season. Setter Morgan Stefanski had over 300 assists on the season and Chelsea Wood turned out a great performance in the back row with 110 digs. ‘These young ladies were the top contributors, but couldn’t have done it alone,? coach Dana Nowacki said. ‘This was a great team that meshes really well together and supports one another very much. I had a lot of fun coaching them and wish them all the best.?
