Clarkston High School Girls Varsity Volleyball team is making the adjustment to its new, fall schedule, making Gold at the Grand Blanc tournament Saturday.
The Wolves won all its pool play matches, beating Dearborn, Divine Child, West Bloomfield, and Romeo for a spot in the Gold Division playoffs.
In the finals, they defeated Troy 26-24 and 25-14, but fell to Vassar 20-25, 25-20, and 4-15.
‘It was their best finish in a tournament in the five years I’ve been coaching,? said Wolves Coach Kelly Avenall. ‘This is a good team. I expect good things from them this year.?
Seniors Emily Parkin and Jilian Locricchio and sophomore Jenna Coates led the team, with 76 assists for the day for Parkins, 24 kills for Locricchio, and 75 digs for Coates.
Their first home game was set for Tuesday, Sept. 11, against Farmington High School.
The team is set to take on Waterford Mott High School 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 13, and compete in the Walled Lake Central tournament starting at 8:30 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 15.
‘We’re Division 1 and Mott is Division 2, so I expect to win that one for sure,? Avenall said. ‘Last year at Walled Lake, we won the Silver bracket. I expect to make the Gold bracket or better, and make the top four or five.?
