Spikers lead with two wins

Lady Wolves are gearing up for their first league game of the season.
They prepared by defeating Oxford and Flushing last week in their Quad on Aug. 31.
They beat the Lady Wildcats, 25-12 and 25-14 and Flushing 25-22 in both sets.
“I am happy with the way the girls played,” said Coach Kelly Avenall.
“Flushing was a big win. We haven’t beat them in the past.?
The girls lost to North Branch, 25-21 and 25-22.
“It was a tough match,” added Avenall, pointing out North Branch won the Class B Volleyball State Championship last year.
The girls were behind 6-0 in the first set but made a drive at points, giving North Branch a tight match.
“I liked the way we fought back,” said Avenall. “They had an outstanding setter out front in the second game. The girls were disappointed but I told them to keep working on it.”
Alexis Egler had 22 kills and 38 assists during the tournament.
“Alexis played outstanding,” added Avenall. “She is a pure hitter, one of the purest hitters I have coached.”
Megan McCarty aided with 12 kills and six blocks. Jamie Gorcya had 36 digs.
