A slow start didn’t prevent the Oxford Varsity Volleyball team from winning the first round of their MHSAA district tournament Nov. 3 against Waterford Mott at Waterford Kettering.
After losing the first game against the Corsairs 16-25, the Wildcats rallied to win the next four games 25-18, 22-25, 25-12 and 15-6.
The Wildcats are now 23-20-5 on the season and will play in the district semifinal tonight at 7 p.m. against Waterford Kettering. A win will put Oxford against the winner of the Lake Orion/Clarkston match in the finals Thursday at WK.
Sophomore Tammy Toteff, brought up from the JV for district play, used her defensive skills be a menace at the net.
Brittany Moncrieff had 17 kills and 13 digs while sophomore Casey Novak stepped up with 15 kills, 2 aces, and 12 digs.
Setters Paige Felisky and Emily Brooks combined for 37 kill assists and 14 digs, and junior Valerie Anderson had 6 kills and 6 digs.
Junior Victoria LaFramboise had 13 digs, Junior Keeona Ives (back in action after having missed the last four weeks with a stress fracture) had 9 digs,and junior Megan Tilley had 9 digs.
