Springfield Township Parks and Recreation is offering the following instructional courses:
Sanchin Ryu Karate is a martial art form that offers a practical, no-nonsense approach to self-defense with emphasis on conflict resolution. STPR has three different levels offered, all on Tuesday evenings at the Hart Community Center, 495 Broadway, in Davisburg, from May 15-June 5.
Jr. Karate: for children aged K-8, class topics include a range of self-defense ideas from how to handle a school bully without fighting, to the physical movements taught by Sanchin-Ryu.
Grace Under Pressure: for children 5 years and older. Students will learn how to act in stressful situations.
Open / Family Karate: is available for everyone five years and older and is a family activity and study opportunity for any individual or family. Call the Springfield Township Parks and Recreation office at 248-634-0412 for times and costs.
Instructors from the Jim Norgart Golf Academy will provide adult golf lessons where participants get an introduction to the game, rules, equipment and proper etiquette. Full swing and short game fundamentals will also be taught. Balls are provided. Participants must bring a seven iron. Resident rates apply and registration is required May 14. Cardio Tennis: The new, fun, group activity, featuring drills for players of all abilities will be available in Davisburg. Cardio Tennis includes warm-up, cardio workout, and cool down phases, all set to music. Registration is required by May 8. Classes are Tuesdays, May 15-June 5, 7:00-8:00 p.m. at the Mill Pond Park tennis courts. The courts are located at 495 Broadway, in downtown Davisburg. The lessons are for players ages 16 and older.
