State Rep. tours community mental health centers

Rosemary Rangi and Robert and Sue White, who are’active in the Parent Alliance of Metro Detroit and parent advocates for their sons who are on the autism spectrum,’recently invited state Rep. James Tedder of the 19th District to visit New Gateways, a non-vocational community activity program serving adults with mild to severe intellectual and developmental disabilities in Oakland County.
Rep. Tedder followed the New Gateways visit with a visit to the Laurelton group home where he met with group home residents and staff. Lynn Maginity, executive director, hosted the New Gateways visit and John Williams, executive director progressive lifestyles, hosted the Laurelton group home visit.
During’the visits, the representative met with consumers at each location as well as staff, learning more about the’critical issues’impacting Community Mental Health in Oakland County.
“It is so important we ensure the safety and care of those that need it most,” Tedder said. “This experience was a valuable reminder of that and I encourage people to visit and see why these services are critical to many.?
