In the end, a state title just wasn’t in the cards for the Clarkston ski teams.
The boys team wound up in third place and the girls team fourth place at the Class A state skiing finals Monday at Marquette Mountain.
In both cases, the Marquette High School skiing juggernaut stood in the Wolves’ way, as the Redmen won both the boys title (with 72 points) and the girls title (with 59.5 points).
The Clarkston boys team wound up with 97.5 points, well behind both Marquette and runner-up Petoskey, which finished with 78 points. Meanwhile, the girls finished with 163.5 points, behind Marquette, runner-up Petoskey (64.5) and third-place Traverse City Central (90.5).
Senior Brandon Rosengren capped off his CHS ski career in fine fashion Monday, leading the boys team in both the slalom (1:01.90, good for third place overall) and the giant slalom (1:11.19, good for fourth place).
Junior John McNew, who is graduating early this year, also finished his CHS career in style, taking top ten finishes in both the giant slalom (eighth, 1:02.97) and the slalom (ninth, 1:14.5).
Sophomore Mo Weiland set the standard for the CHS girls team, leading the Wolves’ competitors in both the slalom (third, 1:21.53) and the giant slalom (13th, 1:02.47).
